Naturopathic medicine, or naturopathy, is based on a philosophy of health that goes far beyond drugs and surgery. The primary goal of the naturopathic doctor is to support your own inner healing ability and to use the most natural, safe methods to improve your health and increase your level of wellness.
Below is a list of the principles that guide the practice of naturopathic medicine:
The healing power of nature is within each person.
First do no harm: Use the safest, least-invasive therapies necessary.
Find the cause: Focus on more than just symptom relief alone.
Treat the whole person: People are more than just their symptoms and more than just their illnesses.
Prevention: Avoid problems before they develop.
Wellness: Recognize and support the state of balanced, positive thought, emotion and action.
Doctor as teacher: Educate and empower individuals with the knowledge, skills and awareness for self care and optimal health.
Naturopathic doctors are primary health care providers in Washington and are able to perform exams, make diagnoses, order lab tests and treat a full spectrum of health conditions. They also make referrals to other healthcare practitioners and specialists as indicated for each patient.
