Post-Infectious IBS (PI-IBS) is a global phenomenon, and not unique to any ethnic group or environment. The incidence or prevalence of Post-Infectious IBS ranges from 5% to 32% in our global communities, with up to 10% of all cases of infectious gastroenteritis resulting in Post-Infectious IBS. Some communities such as Military Veterans may experience up to a 6 fold greater risk of developing Post-Infectious IBS. In this talk I will look at PI-IBS statistics, etiologies, and risk factors and will also discuss testing and treatment strategies to help primary care and GI-focused clinicians help these patients with PI-IBS to recover on a deeper level.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Christine Bowen is a public speaker, author, and naturopathic physician who has been practicing in the greater Seattle area for 15 years. She graduated from Bastyr University and is the founder and medical director of Bothell Natural Health, a busy GI- and autoimmune-focused natural medicine clinic. Her belief that health can be transformed through diet is the foundation of her specialty as a gastrointestinal health expert. By combining compassionate care with evidence-based naturopathic approaches, and collaborating with other providers, her GI patients consistently have excellent outcomes. Dr. Bowen has a passion for helping underserved communities, which inspired her to found the non-profit organization Inside Health Institute where she currently holds the role of Chief Medical Officer.
