So many of us have life events that cause our life to take a divergent path. If you would have asked me 20 years ago what I would be doing today it would be vastly different; I never dreamed I would be living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and I never knew I would be doing work that means so much to me.
Although I thought about becoming a physician, I took almost a two decade detour and became an IT architect/consultant. I was in charge of teams that worked with federal, state and local governments as well as private sector companies creating software and integrating technology. I loved my work, but unfortunately, I became ill from working towards too many deadlines and not paying attention to my ailing health. My memory was failing, I had difficulty concentrating and I was diagnosed with systemic lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. I could no longer maintain my long days and nights. Something was terribly wrong...and something had to change.
I learned about naturopathic medicine only after I was told by multiple specialists that I would be on medication for the rest of my life and it would limit my functionality considerably. After realizing that I had to change everything about my life in order to save it, my family and I moved to the Pacific Northwest so I could study medicine. By making changes to my diet, lifestyle and the way I looked at things, over time I was able to reverse the systemic lupus diagnosis and I no longer experience arthritic pain.
Natural medicine works! It works, because the vital force within each of us has the capacity to heal. We start this process when we remove the obstacles to our healing and provide the body with the support it needs.
