Abstract:Â Chronic Pain is a common condition, prompting patients to seek care from a range of healthcare providers. This lecture will review key principles in assessment of chronic pain (including psychological factors that must be understood), natural treatment approaches, and opioid and non-opioid pharmacological treatment. We will additionally discuss critical aspects related to the use of controlled substances.
Presenter Bio:Â Dr. Bill Walter received his doctoral degree in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University and went on to complete a residency at the Bastyr Center for Natural Health. He is near completion of a mini-fellowship in Primary Care Psychiatry through the University of California - Irvine. Currently, he works as Associate Medical Director at the Community Health Centers of Lane County - a Federally-Qualified Health Center in central Oregon - splitting his time between administrative duties and clinical practice. He also serves as Vice-Chair (and Chair-Elect) of the Clinical Advisory Panel for Trillium Community Health Plans - the local Medicaid Coordinated Care Organization - where he has previously served as Chair of the Chronic Non-Malignant Pain Committee. He is one of Oregon's delegates to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) House of Delegates and previously served as Chair of the AANP Scientific Affairs Committee. He has lectured extensively to conventional and naturopathic communities about a range of topics, mostly related to chronic pain. He lives in Eugene, Oregon, with his wife and daughter and their several pets, and he is passionate about games.
