A new rule allowing Washington-licensed naturopathic physicians to inject botulinum toxin for nonsurgical cosmetic purposes is in effect as of today. In the weeks since the rule language was finalized, the WANP heard from many of our doctors who have faced challenges in obtaining botulinum toxin for cosmetic (or even for therapeutic) use, so we have been working behind the scenes with Allergan Aesthetics - the maker of Botox Cosmetic - to change its internal policies. We are extremely pleased to announce that - effective today, December 14 - Allergan's legal department has updated these policies and will now allow naturopathic physicians to serve as independent medical directors, enabling our doctors to pursue training and order product and supplies from them. (We have reached out to other producers of botulinum toxin but have yet to connect.)
Always remember that state law (and common sense) requires that healthcare providers be fully competent to provide any care they provide, and the new rule requires hands-on training before  being allowed to perform any non-surgical cosmetic procedures.
