The Ins and Outs of Running a Cash Based Practice
Abstract
Cash-based practices are often thought of as being elite, concierge-like businesses that only offer services to those with disposable income. But they are hardly that. Cash-based practices allow for low-cost care to patients, as well as providing sustainable and reliable income for providers. By taking out the middleman of insurance companies, cash-based practices create and foster meaningful relationships between practitioners and providers that can work to heal our medical system from the inside out.
In this talk, Dr. Bennett will go through the basics of running a cash-based practice, the pros and cons to consider, and how to make a cash-based practice sustainable for both patients and providers. With 13 years of experience running a successful cash-based practice, Dr. Bennett will also walk through different models of cash-based practices and how insurance-based practices can convert to cash if needed.
Intended audience: new and established practitioners; medical students; non-clinical staff

Rachel Giordano, ND
From Overwhelmed to Optimized: Leveraging virtual assistants to build a more efficient practice
Abstract
Naturopathic doctors are increasingly challenged by administrative demands, exorbitant overhead, staffing shortages, patient communication needs, and the growing responsibilities of running a successful practice. Many doctors spend hours each week performing tasks that do not require their clinical expertise, limiting both patient capacity and practice growth.
This presentation will explore how virtual assistants can be strategically integrated into naturopathic practices to improve efficiency, enhance patient experience, and reduce clinician burnout. Attendees will learn which non-clinical tasks can be delegated, including scheduling, patient follow-up, lead management, insurance verification, marketing support, and administrative workflows.
Through real-world examples from naturopathic and integrative medicine practices, attendees will gain practical insights to increase efficiency, improve clinic operations, and create greater freedom to focus on what matters most which is helping patients achieve better health outcomes.
Intended Audience: established and new NDs; ND students; nonclinical audience

Sunita Iyer, ND, LM
Navigating Variability in Your Practice by Creating It with Purpose (Part Two)
Abstract
This session is a continuation of Dr. Sunita Iyer's 2025 session on practice variability, shifting from theory to application, with some added insight from forced diversification! Participants will learn how to translate their existing clinical knowledge into scalable, patient-centered offerings such as workshops, group programs, educational resources, and mentorship structures—without diluting the integrity of individualized care. Emphasis will be placed on identifying high-impact, repeatable clinical content, selecting appropriate delivery formats based on patient needs and behavior change complexity, and designing offerings that complement rather than compete with 1:1 care. This process will include discussion of project management strategies and the value-add of creativity.
Intended audience: new and established practitioners; medical students; non-clinical staff

Christine James, ND, & Rubin Maidan, MD

How To Have It All: Thriving practice, successful business, & health balance

In this presentation, Dr. Shailinder will discuss the importance of finding your passion in your practice to bring joy to your life, as well as the lessons he's learned since helping to found Ayush Herbs in 1988.

Kalea Wattles, ND
The Visible Practitioner: How social media can expand your reach, your impact, and your revenue
Abstract
Social media can feel like a distraction from clinical work — until it becomes one of the most powerful tools in your practice. In this session, Dr. Kalea Wattles shares how a clear online niche transformed her naturopathic practice into a platform with national reach and multiple revenue streams.
Dr. Wattles will walk through the strategic case for niching down your online presence, why specificity builds trust faster than breadth, and how to translate your clinical expertise into content that resonates with your ideal audience. She’ll cover the practical foundations of building a social media presence that reflects your values and voice, without requiring a marketing team or a full-time content schedule.
Perhaps most importantly, she’ll speak candidly about how consistent, purposeful social media has opened doors she didn’t anticipate: a publishing deal, an online program, and a community of practitioners and patients who found her because of what she shared online.
Intended Audience: new NDs; ND students
