Description

Derm can be tough... but it doesn’t have to be! Skin diseases affect as many as 1 in 3 Americans at any given time. Non-dermatologists evaluate over 50% of cutaneous diseases that present in the outpatient setting. The field of integrative dermatology has been advancing by leaps and bounds with new treatments being researched at an increasing pace. This presentation will cover recent advances in pharmaceuticals, supplements, and botanicals that are used to treat some of the most common and toughest skin conditions our patients face. The topics of acne and rosacea will be covered in detail. We will review the latest pharmaceutical developments so that you can be familiar with medications your patients may be on or may be considering going on, and we will look at the newest research on which botanicals and pharmaceuticals are showing the best clinical results for patients. Many patients have found that pharmaceuticals have failed them, or they are just not interested in being on topical steroids, antibiotics, or biologics. Naturopathic medicine has led the way using therapies such as probiotics, vitamin D, and fish oil to treat dermatological problems, and the research is finally catching up. Many new botanical therapies and supplements are also showing great promise in treating some of the biggest skin diseases. You will leave this talk with an arsenal of evidence-based clinical tools to confidently treat your patients’ tough derm problems using naturopathic medicine.
